A cat was stuck on the side of a highway with no way to get down. People came together to rescue him so he could have a good life.
Earlier this year, volunteers from Good Karma Pet Rescue got a sad message about an orange cat stuck on the side of I-95, a busy highway, with no way to get down.
The cat had somehow ended up there and was really scared because of all the cars rushing by. Angela, who volunteers to take care of pets until they find homes, was nearby on her way to work when she heard about the cat.
She went to find him right away and was surprised to see the cat hanging onto the concrete barrier for dear life.
He was found stranded on the highway
The poor cat was so scared that he couldn’t move, and he was stuck against a fence with no way out. The rescue group said that because of some road work, there was only a small space between the busy lanes and the fence the cat was on.
They quickly called people they knew to get help, and in no time, Maria, who works for Broward County Animal Care, rushed to the spot. She met up with Angela to help the cat.
Once Maria found out where the cat was stuck, she called for help, and a state trooper came to make sure it was safe. When there were no cars passing by, Maria was able to grab the cat and put him safely in a crate.
The cat, named Axel, was a little scared after everything but felt better knowing he was away from all the cars. He started to calm down while listening to Maria’s comforting voice.
Axel had some injuries on his paws and broken claws from trying to get away from the highway, but other than that, he was okay. He was about one year old, had been neutered, but didn’t have a microchip.
He was friendly and seemed thankful for the help he was getting.
After his rescue, Axel was really friendly and wanted attention. He purred and rubbed against his crate, showing he liked being petted and loved. This was surprising, considering what he had just been through.
A family agreed to take care of Axel while he recovered. They made sure he had a comfy place to rest. After his rescue, he went to the vet, who said he was healthy. He’s now settling into his new home and feeling more relaxed.

Once Axel was inside, he became more outgoing, and his real personality came out. He liked hanging out on the couch and keeping an eye on his family. He also wanted to be friends with everyone he met.
Axel gets along really well with other cats. He’s so friendly that he assumes everyone wants to be friends with him. He’ll go up and try to be friends with other cats right away, even if they don’t know each other. He’s surprised if the other cat doesn’t want to be friends.
He has extra toes on his front paws
Axel loves everyone, whether they’re cats or dogs. He really enjoys being around other animals and does well in a house with lots of cats.
Axel often hangs out with the family dog in the kitchen, asking for attention and treats. He’s chatty, playful, and has extra toes on his front paws.
He enjoys the company of both cats and dogs
Axel is really good at playing with toys because he has extra toes on his paws, which helps him grab onto things tightly. He loves to play and is always up for an adventure.
He’s an energetic and playful cat, showing all those cute behaviors that orange cats have. He’ll play until he’s tired and then snuggle up with a catnip toy until he falls asleep, feeling really happy.
Because of the help of many nice people, Axel doesn’t have to spend cold nights or lonely days anymore. He’s living each day happily, enjoying the good life he deserves.
