A small black-and-white kitten’s loud cries helped a family discover him and his littermates, changing their lives for the better.
Earlier this year, a person from Toronto, Canada heard what sounded like a kitten crying. They followed the sound and found it was coming from a dumpster. When they looked inside, they found a suspicious plastic bag. Inside were not just one, but a whole litter of newborn kittens trying to keep warm. One of them, a tiny black-and-white kitten, was crying loudly, missing his mom.
The person took the kittens to their daughter for help. The daughter and her friend worked together to take care of the kittens all night. The next day, they took the kittens to the Toronto Humane Society.

Tania, a volunteer at the Toronto Humane Society, said, “If the tuxedo kitten hadn’t been crying so loudly, they might never have been found.” With the help of many volunteers, Charlie (the tuxedo kitten), Nova (a tortoiseshell kitten), and Suarez (another tortoiseshell kitten) survived and started doing well. They opened their eyes around the second week and began to walk once they were strong enough.
“The kittens were very young, so they got used to humans fast and were really friendly. I’m sure they knew right away that they were safe,” Tania told Love Meow.
“I started taking care of them when they were three weeks old. I’ll look after them until they’re old enough to get spayed and neutered, and then they can find new homes.”
“They liked snuggling with me and playing together. They were cheerful, lively, and loved to purr,” the young woman said.
Even after the kittens left, the young women kept tabs on them through social media. They saw them grow from tiny cuties to affectionate lap cats and then to playful troublemakers.
The kittens soon learned that warm laps were perfect for sitting or napping on. They would often snuggle up together in Tania’s lap, wrapping their arms around each other while they purred happily.

“Suarez enjoyed climbing onto my lap after eating. She’d gaze into my eyes while I brushed her beautiful fur. Then, she’d burp, sometimes followed by a little toot, and then it was time for a nap, all while she was so close to my face.”

Nova was the quiet one but enjoyed being held by her foster mom. Charlie was always ready to give hugs and affection.
When they were big enough to be adopted, they found perfect homes right away.
A lovely family adopted Suarez, and she now has an orange cat named Leo as her permanent big brother. Despite some initial hissing, they’ve become close friends. Leo makes sure to give his tortoiseshell sister lots of baths throughout the day.

The two women who took care of the kittens when they were rescued came back to adopt them. They each took one, Charlie and Nova, so the brother and sister could continue to play together in the future.
Nova really likes her new big brother, Milo, and they often snuggle together in the cat tree. Charlie, the tuxedo kitten, has settled into his new home and quickly taken charge.
Nova and Milo
Charlie and Nova often play together, and Milo enjoys having Charlie as a friend. He loves both Charlie and Nova equally.
The kittens have grown a lot. Nova and Suarez like to follow their big tabby brothers around the house and play with them.
Charlie, the affectionate one, still loves giving hugs and cuddles. He’s always looking for a cozy lap to curl up in.
