Jess Hannam, 31, was on her way to the hospital with her partner Joe Illsley, 34, when she realized they wouldn’t make it to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey in time.
A mom had to give birth in a care home’s car park because her baby was coming too quickly. Jess Hannam, 31, and her partner Joe Illsley, 34, realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time.
Jess said they decided to stop at a care home instead of a petrol station because it seemed cleaner. Joe helped deliver the baby while talking to a 999 operator. It had only been 90 minutes since Jess’s contractions started. When Joe saw someone leaving the care home, he ran over to ask for help.
Jess said: “Lots of people were helping out, checking on me, and bringing towels and blankets.”
An ambulance arrived soon after the baby was born and took Jess and her son to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, where he was weighed at a healthy 6 pounds 7 ounces.
Jess and Joe, who are graphic designers, named their baby Louie Avery. They chose the middle name Avery because Avery Healthcare runs the care home where Louie was born in their BMW.
Jess, who lives in Bracknell and has a six-year-old son named Logan, has since taken Louie to meet the care home’s residents and staff. Care assistant Susan Bedford, who helped Jess during the delivery, said meeting the baby was very emotional.
