A sad old cat in a shelter became happy when he got a new home.
A few weeks ago, an older cat named Merv came to PuppyKittyNYCITY because his owner died. He felt scared and sad, sitting quietly in his cage.
Volunteers tried to cheer him up by petting him and talking to him kindly, but Merv felt stressed in the shelter and wanted a home of his own. Whenever he saw someone, he cried with a sad meow.
Meagan, the president of the rescue, asked the community to help find a temporary home for Merv, hoping to give him a better place to stay.
He was surrendered to the rescue after his owner passed away
“Meagan said he’s scared and confused. He should spend his old age with someone who loves him,” she said.
Merv went to the vet and got checked thoroughly. He had some teeth removed, but he handled it well. Now he feels better when he eats because he doesn’t have any pain.
Merv looked sad being in a kennel
Once Merv got all the medical help he needed, he didn’t want to go back to the kennel. A nice family took him in. At first, Merv was really scared and hid in the dark for a few days. But as time passed, he started to feel comfortable in his new home with the kind people there.
Volunteers took turns to spend time with him
Merv noticed it was quiet without other cats meowing or background noises. He had lots of space to walk around and comfy spots to sit on. He got curious and started exploring the house because everything seemed interesting to him.
He meowed at volunteers whenever they passed by
Merv watched his new family as they went about their daily activities and got used to their routines. It took him a few days to feel comfortable, but this week, something changed. He started to feel more relaxed and even started seeking out affection from his new family.
Merv had a full checkup and a dental
Everyone at the rescue celebrated Merv’s great improvement. Merv looked happy and confident for the first time since he arrived, rubbing his face against his human for affection. Now, he doesn’t hide anymore because he feels like he belongs in his foster home. He even claimed the couch as his favorite spot and loves to hang out with his people, purring happily.
He finally found a foster home. Days later, he came out of his shell
Merv is a big cat, and when he stretches out on the bed, he takes up a lot of space. He likes being in a calm house and spending time with people who care about him. Since his dental surgery, he’s part of the “toothless club,” but he still enjoys making biscuits with his paws.
He is no longer a shy cat and asks for pets from his people
They’ve found out that Merv loves making biscuits. Whenever he’s lying down with his people, he kneads the air with his paws. It shows that he feels comfortable, trusts them, and feels safe now.
“He is living it up and making the biscuits in his foster home. All the seniors deserve the good life.”
