About a month ago, a tiny 4-week-old kitten with huge eyes arrived at the ASPCA Kitten Nursery in New York City. She needed a lot of care and love. Cerena, one of the caregivers, shared, “She was left at my workplace and brought to me and my team at the kitten nursery.” The kitten’s large eyes reminded the caregivers of a frog’s eyes, likely due to an untreated bacterial infection. “When I first held her, she just wanted to cuddle and feel loved. After she got a bit better, my fiancé Anthony and I decided to foster her. We fell in love with her right away,” Cerena added.
After various trips to the vet, they concluded that Oomi was in need of surgery to remove her eyes. But, she would have to wait to get bigger to have the surgery.
“She does not let life slow her down! She loves climbing whatever she can find.”
Only a few days after the surgery, Oomi was already climbing around like normal. “Her doctor was amazed. They’ve never seen a kitten recover so fast after surgery! You wouldn’t even know she’s missing an eye,” Cerena exclaimed.
Oomi doesn’t feel pain or infection anymore! She’s starting a new life. “She’s got a big personality. Every morning, she wakes me up by nuzzling my neck and chin. She loves playing and cuddling with us when we’re playing games or watching TV.” “She gets super excited and chirps when we come home.”
Oomi might be a little thing, but her heart is the size of the whole world.
“Even the toughest of warriors sometimes need a favorite stuffed bunny to cuddle with.”
Now Oomi is loving her life. She keeps surprising her owners with how well she adapts. The couple officially adopted Oomi a week ago, making her a permanent part of their family. “I’ve been facing a lot of health issues and trying to recover from a bad car accident in July. Oomi has been a huge support. She’s always there to cheer me up and make me laugh,” Cerena shared. “She came into my life at just the right time when I needed her the most.”
