A woman’s life changed a lot when she married a rich man. She thought he was great for her family. She shared on Reddit how he gave her parents expensive gifts, paid her sister’s credit card bills, and got her brother a good job.
Her husband’s family liked him a lot for helping them, even though he cheated on her.
Right after she had their baby, Kelly, her husband cheated on her for the first time. Feeling vulnerable and thinking about leaving him, she talked to her family for help. They were supportive, but she found it hard to decide and ended up staying with him. She told herself he cheated because she wasn’t a good wife during her pregnancy.
Years later, when Kelly was about 12, her husband cheated again. This time, she decided to get a divorce. But her family and in-laws didn’t want her to because they didn’t want any trouble that could ruin their reputation. She reluctantly filed for divorce, but the fight for custody of Kelly was tough. Her ex-husband’s lawyers and her in-laws were more powerful.
Sadly, she lost custody of Kelly, but she got some money every month and a fair settlement. Even though she tried to stay close to her daughter, her in-laws and her own parents made Kelly think badly of her. They made her believe that her mom was mean and didn’t want to forgive her dad. So, when Kelly grew up, she thought her mom was a bad person.
During those hard times, the woman found comfort in her best friend, Tina. Tina was always there for her, supporting her and being her rock. Without Tina, she might not have made it through.
Over the years, the woman tried to mend things with her daughter Kelly. She even agreed to pay for Kelly’s grad school, but there were conditions. In return for the money, Kelly had to give up being her mom’s heir in the will.
But life has a way of balancing things out. Kelly focused on her own life, studying accounting and getting a good job. Meanwhile, her dad (the woman’s ex-husband) had a rough time. He lost his job and got into legal trouble, using up the money meant for Kelly’s education.
Now that Kelly was financially independent and had more experience with life, she wanted to rebuild her relationship with her mom. The woman wondered if Kelly’s change of heart was because of her own money troubles, especially since her mom wasn’t paying for her tuition anymore.
The woman said she would pay for Kelly’s grad school, but Kelly had to give up her right to inherit the woman’s stuff as written in her will. Instead, the woman’s goddaughter, Laura, would get everything. Laura had been like a daughter to the woman for a long time.
This made the family argue. Some think the woman was right to choose Laura because Kelly only wanted to reconnect when she needed money.
