When Kate Middleton had surgery on her abdomen in January, people thought she’d return to her royal duties after Easter. But things changed in February when she got diagnosed with cancer, which was made public in March.
King Charles and the Princess of Wales are both getting treatment for their diagnoses, but it’s not clear when they’ll be back to royal duties. Meanwhile, there are reports that Kate still managed to do some royal work from her hospital bed at the London Clinic.
Even though we’re not sure when Kate Middleton will return to her royal duties after her cancer diagnosis, a royal expert says she might come back sooner than we think. This news is giving royal fans a lot of hope.
On March 22, Kate Middleton shared that she’s having “preventive chemotherapy.” This announcement, made in a video on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media, surprised many royal fans around the world.

Kate decided not to say what type of cancer she’s fighting. But since she had abdominal surgery in January, it might give a hint about where it started.
“In January, I had big surgery on my abdomen in London. They thought it wasn’t cancer at the time. The surgery went well. But tests afterward showed cancer was there. So, my doctors recommended I have preventive chemotherapy. I’m just starting that treatment now,” Kate Middleton said in a video filmed in Windsor’s garden.
“This was a big surprise, and William and I have been dealing with it privately to protect our young family. It’s been a process. I needed time to recover from surgery before starting treatment. But most importantly, we’ve taken time to talk to George, Charlotte, and Louis and reassure them that I’ll be okay.”
Since her abdominal surgery in mid-January, Kate Middleton hasn’t been doing royal duties. When King Charles got his cancer diagnosis in January, people thought he’d be back to work after Easter. Because of that, many thought Kate would take on more responsibility along with Queen Camilla and her husband, Prince William.
Kate spent 13 days at the London Clinic after her abdominal surgery.
Kate Middleton sent letter to grieving widow from her hospital bed
The private hospital in central London, just an hour’s car ride from Windsor, was opened by the Duke and Duchess of York in 1932. It’s a hospital that many celebrities have been to.
Kate Middleton isn’t the only royal who has been a patient there. In 1980, Princess Margaret went to the London Clinic to have a harmless skin growth removed, and in 2013, Prince Philip had an “abdominal investigation” there.
Even though Kate didn’t make any public royal appearances while she was recovering at the London Clinic, it’s said that she didn’t completely step away from her duties.
In early February, Kate Garraway, whose husband, TV host Derek Draper, died in January from COVID-19 complications, went on Good Morning Britain. She shared that members of the public, including Kate Middleton, sent her condolence letters.
“And from the royal family — Catherine and William sent a lovely letter, and I know Catherine has been in the hospital herself,” Garraway said.
Even the King — because he knows about grief — understands that feeling of anticipatory grief, when you know something bad might happen, and how different it feels when it actually does happen.

Kate Garraway was not the only one receiving a letter from Kate Middleton during this time.
Kate sent royal fan ‘thank you’ note after surgery
On April 6, a user named @AllemarieHoll1 shared a heartwarming story that melted the hearts of royal fans. She received a letter from Kensington Palace, the office of the Prince and Princess of Wales. In January, she and her family sent a card to Kate Middleton after her abdominal surgery, and they got a response.
“In January, when we found out that our lovely Princess of Wales had surgery, I sent her a card with our sincerest wishes for healing and lots of love from me and my family,” she wrote, as reported by Express. “Today, I got this lovely acknowledgment, and I can honestly say I’ll cherish it for the rest of my life.”
The thank you card they received had “Kensington Palace” printed at the top. It said, “Thank you for your kind well wishes to Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales. Your thoughtful gesture is very much appreciated.”
Also, the user joked that her husband thought they got invited to a royal garden party. “The envelope has Kensington Palace on the back lol hubby thought he was going to have to get his suit out for a garden party (silly him) but he is just as blown away as I am to receive this beautiful, and much treasured card. Continued prayers and healing to our beautiful Princess of Wales,” X user @AllemarieHoll1 continued.

Queen Camilla broke silence on Kate Middleton before Easter
One user wrote, “Wow, this is such a beautiful response… You have a beautiful heart to have sent her a card, which I’m sure meant so much… How can one find her address… I’d like to send one too…” Another added, “How very special, dear friend. Your kindness was appreciated.”
Royal fans from around the world have been sending their best wishes to Kate Middleton during this tough time. As expected, both Kate and King Charles chose not to go to church on Easter Sunday. Instead, Camilla handled royal duties herself for Easter week. While visiting Shrewsbury, she met many royal fans at a farmer’s market. It was there that Camilla spoke about Kate for the first time since her cancer diagnosis announcement, prompted by a sign given to her by two young girls.
The sign said, “Send our love to Kate,” and had hearts, stars, and other cute drawings on it.
When Queen Camilla saw the sign, she stopped to talk to the young girls. Royal expert Rebecca English reported that she told them, “I know that Catherine is thrilled by all the kind wishes and support.”

Both Kate Middleton and King Charles are receiving tremendous support from their royal family members while they are undergoing cancer treatment. Meanwhile, one royal expert claims that it isn’t the members of the loyal family whom she is leaning on for support but her parents and siblings.
Kate Middleton’s parents are “the real anchors in her life,” royal expert says
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Princess of Wales is finding comfort and support from her family.
“She has a close circle of friends, especially in Norfolk, and her parents, as well as her brother James and sister Pippa, are the ones she relies on the most,” Nicholl explained.
Katie Nicholl continued, saying that while you don’t often see them in photos together, Kate Middleton’s parents are always there for her in the background, providing essential support.
She also mentioned that Kate’s parents were relieved to learn that her cancer was detected early.
Katie Nicholl added that Catherine will be receiving care from some of the best doctors in the world, so she’s in good hands. She also mentioned how strong and down-to-earth Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael, have always been. Right now, they’re coming together to support not just William and Kate but also their grandchildren.
While Carole and Michael Middleton didn’t release an official message after their daughter’s cancer announcement, her brother James did. He posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing his support for Kate and sharing a childhood photo of them together.

Royal expert says Kate Middleton could “attend certain events” during cancer treatments
Even though we’re not sure what’s going to happen soon, good news is always welcome. GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker suggests that the Princess of Wales might be getting ready to make public appearances sooner than we thought. He says she “might attend certain events” in the near future.
Cameron Walker said, “Due to the princess’ cancer treatment, she’s having preventative chemotherapy right now. What I’m hearing from those close to her is that she might choose to go to some events if she feels well enough and wants to.”
“But as for getting back to her regular royal duties and being a full-time working royal, that might still be a while off. However, there’s a chance we might see her at some events this summer. It all depends on how her treatment progresses.”
