It’s sad to hear about a cat being left behind, especially when they used to have a home. But luckily, there are groups like Flatbush Cats. They work to help reduce the number of stray cats in Brooklyn, New York. With over 500,000 cats roaming the streets of New York City, Flatbush Cats does things like trap, neuter, and return, as well as teaching others about it. They also rescue and find homes for cats in need.
One day, a neighbor of Flatbush Cats discovered a stray cat on their porch. It seemed like he was trying to find a way to get inside. He had a heavy chain around his neck, which they promptly took off.
They decided to call him Little Bear and were puzzled as to why such a wonderful cat would be left alone. Little Bear was around 12 months old, similar to many other cats they came across on the streets who were also reaching adulthood.
Little Bear wasn’t neutered, so his urine had a strong smell. This is one reason why many male cats like him get abandoned.
Flatbush Cats think that if every big city had free or cheap spay and neuter programs, there would be fewer cats on the streets.
They chose to give this cat, who had been abandoned before, the full name of Marching Little Bear because he loved to make biscuits with his paws all the time.
After resting for a few days, Little Bear was eager to show off his hunting skills, and he was really good at it too! Cats his age need a lot of exercise, and playing hunting games is a great way for them to use up all that extra energy.
Little Bear enjoys playing, but his favorite thing to do is nap, especially when he’s close to someone. This playful cat was a joy to be around, and after getting neutered and vaccinated, it wasn’t hard to find a family eager to adopt him.
