Cillian Murphy showed off his muscles on Thursday as he headed to the gym before filming the Peaky Blinders movie. The 47-year-old Irish actor, known for playing Tommy Shelby, wore a grey T-shirt that showed off his toned body while working out in Dublin. He kept it casual with tracksuit bottoms, trainers, a cap, and sunglasses.
His new look is very different from last year, when he used harsh and “unhealthy” methods to get ready for his role in Oppenheimer, which won him an Oscar. Cillian went to extreme measures, reportedly eating just one almond a day, to match the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer’s very thin appearance.
But now he’s back to working out hard after signing up for the Peaky Blinders movie, where he’ll play his lead role again, two years after the BBC series ended.
Earlier this year, Cillian Murphy said he would definitely return for the Peaky Blinders movie if the script was as good as he hoped, since he thinks the writer, Steven Knight, is amazing. He’s excited to play 50-year-old Tommy Shelby again and is ready to go for it.
The movie will be filmed in Birmingham, England, at Digbeth studios and in the Digbeth and Small Heath areas. It’s expected to come out in 2025 at the earliest, but no exact date has been set yet.
Cillian mentioned he enjoyed playing Tommy Shelby, even though it was exhausting and very different from his other roles. He sees it as an important part of his career, but he’s more excited about moving on to new projects.
The original plan was to have a seventh season of Peaky Blinders set during World War II. But now, the movie will be the final chapter of the series after the six seasons.
Peaky Blinders started in 2013 and became very popular in Britain and around the world, with stars like Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast.
Cillian Murphy has transformed his body for roles before. For his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, he went to extreme measures, reportedly eating just one almond a day to achieve the physicist’s very thin look. This role won him an Oscar for Best Actor.
Emily Blunt, who played his on-screen wife Kitty, talked about Cillian’s intense diet and transformation, calling it a “monumental undertaking.” Cillian said he wanted to capture Oppenheimer’s distinct look and physicality, which meant losing a lot of weight and working on his appearance and expressions to match the character’s thin frame and intense look.
