Cyclist tragically killed by a huge speaker just yards from the finish line during a race

The incident happened during a race in Brazil.
Brazilian cyclist Jaiane Souza Oliveira Fernandes was tragically killed when a speaker fell on her during the final moments of the race.

Oliveira, 34, was racing in Baianopolis, Brazil last Sunday (July 28) when she crashed into a sound truck parked by the track. The crash caused a speaker from the truck to fall on her.

Spectators and paramedics quickly came to help the mother of two. Unfortunately, she later died in the hospital from her injuries, which included severe head trauma.

According to reports, Oliveira was near the finish line when she had to swerve because another cyclist passed too close to her. This caused her to crash into the sound truck, and a speaker fell on her.

A second cyclist also hit the sound truck but was not hurt.

Dubai Bikers, who organized the event, shared a tribute to Oliveira on social media, saying her death has left a “deep void” in their hearts. They hope her memories and legacy will bring comfort and strength.

Local police in Brazil are still investigating the crash. By the time they arrived, the sound truck had already been moved.

Oliveira’s funeral was held the next day, with many fellow cyclists attending.

A video shared on Instagram showed cyclists riding alongside the car carrying her coffin and standing with their bikes to honor her. About 70 cyclists from different cities came to pay their respects to Oliveira, who was known for her love of cycling.

The post also mentioned that she is survived by her husband and twin sons.

Social media users also paid their respects, with one person writing: “What a beautiful and sad tribute.” Another person said: “It was a beautiful tribute, showing the unity of cyclists, even though it was a farewell.”
