The couple has been married since June 2019.
WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife, Cherelle Griner, are getting ready to welcome their first baby. They shared the exciting news on Instagram with a photo of them holding hands next to an ultrasound picture of their baby.
“Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being 🤍 #BabyGrinerComingSoon #July2024,” they wrote alongside the post, mentioning that the baby is due in July.
Griner’s over 714,000 followers flooded the comments section to congratulate the couple.
“Yay!!! ❤️❤️,” wrote the WNBA, and the Phoenix Mercury team added, “Baby Griner 🥹.”
Brittney and Cherelle got married in June 2019. They met while they were both at Baylor University.
They announced the pregnancy more than a year after Brittney was released from a Russian prison. She got arrested during the WNBA offseason because officials found cannabis oil in her luggage at a Moscow airport in February 2022.
Griner was in custody in Russia for almost a year. She came back to the United States in December 2022 after a swap with Viktor Bout, who was in prison for arms trafficking. Griner started playing basketball again in May 2023.
Her book, “Coming Home,” about her time in Russia, is set to be released on May 7.
