Wherever there’s darkness, there’s also light, and wherever there are bad guys, there are good guys.
This was proven true when four young boys from the 7 Mile area of Detroit did something extraordinary to rescue a dog that really needed help.
Brothers Kenny, Kenneth, and Kevin Dancy, along with their friend Andrew Daniels, were helping a neighbor move when they saw something that would surprise anyone.
They discovered an abandoned dog tied to the back of a house with bungee cords. Emaciated and shivering from exposure, the poor pup was in a seriously bad way.
The boys knew they had to act quickly. They wrapped the dog in a warm coat to keep her comfortable, then untied her and brought her home with them to give her food and water. They named her Sparkle.
While they were walking Sparkle in the neighborhood, they met some people from the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.
They told them about Sparkle and how they found her. The people from the organization thought Sparkle might have mange, a skin disease. They took her to the vet to get checked out and cared for her.
The organization made a video on Facebook thanking the boys and calling them “heroes.”
Theresa Sumpter, who started the organization, said, “You could see how much they cared for this dog,” in an interview with WDIV.
“They were protective of the dog and wanted to make sure the dog was going to a good place.”
After Sparkle was tested at the shelter, it became apparent that she didn’t have the mange. This mean she could be fast-tracked to adoption. Pet Tales Rescue, a sister organization, oversaw the process, placing Sparkles with a foster mom who would give her all the love she needed.
Meanwhile, the four young boys, who received widespread praise for their compassion, also went on to rescue two more dogs in the same neighborhood. Again via Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, they were able to take the dogs from the streets to the vet for treatment.
