Similar to the biblical story of Mary giving birth to Jesus, a street dog has chosen a barnacle filled with straw as the birthing place for her seven charming pups.
In Palenque’s central square, a beautiful Nativity scene was on display under a simple tent. Amidst the traditional Christmas figurines peacefully resting, an unexpected yet heartwarming addition was a pregnant dog.
According to reports, the lovable dog sought the Christmas nativity scene as a safe haven. It provided her respite from the icy streets and potentially a source of warmth. Local journalist Eric Guzmán witnessed this and discovered her curled up inside the straw.
Upon closer inspection, Eric realized that the dog had given birth to seven adorable puppies. It seemed that she had determined the Christmas birth setting as the safest and most welcoming place for her delivery.
Speaking to The Dodo, Eric expressed his astonishment and joy at finding the puppies in a secure environment. He mentioned that despite the typically hot weather in Palenque, December brings a drop in temperature, prompting dogs to seek shelter from the elements.
Since Eric shared the story of the dog and her puppies, numerous Palenque residents have visited the manger to see them, with some even bringing refreshments. The local government has also extended support, allowing the dog family to stay as long as needed.
To ensure the well-being of the dogs both now and in the future, the animal lovers of Dejando Huellitas SOS Palenque have taken the initiative to find homes for them, emphasizing the importance of their care.
While Eric may not consider the puppies’ birth in the Christmas manger a miracle, he acknowledges their significance. The journalist hopes that as a society, people become more aware of stray dogs and choose to adopt them instead of buying. He emphasized the importance of loving these animals, regardless of their origin.
