Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are getting a divorce after two years of marriage. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The couple, often called “Bennifer” by the media, first got married in Las Vegas in July 2022 and then had a bigger wedding in Georgia the next month.
Their relationship started when they met while filming the movie Gigli in 2003. They had planned to get married back then but ended their relationship in early 2004.
Almost 20 years after their first relationship ended, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got back together. In 2022, after announcing their Las Vegas wedding, Lopez said, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”
The BBC has reached out to their representatives for comments on the divorce. According to court documents, Lopez or her lawyer needs to officially inform Affleck about her request to end their marriage.
Media reports suggest that Lopez, who had changed her last name to Affleck, did not include any details about a prenuptial agreement in her divorce filing. The court has ordered both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, to share financial information, like their income, expenses, properties, and debts. They must keep each other updated on any financial changes until they reach a final agreement.
The court has given Lopez 60 days to provide her financial information, and Affleck will have another 60 days after that to do the same. If either of them fails to do this, they could face penalties from the court.
There have been rumors about trouble in their relationship for months. They reportedly put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale for $65 million and have been seen out in public without their wedding rings.
Ben Affleck, who has won two Oscars, was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner. They met while working on the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor. After being married for ten years, they separated in 2015 and have three children together.
Jennifer Lopez, also known as J.Lo, has been married four times. Her first marriage was to a Cuban-born waiter, Ojani Noa, from 1997 to 1998. She then married her former backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. Her longest marriage was to singer Marc Anthony, with whom she had twins, lasting from 2004 to 2014. Lopez was also once engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
