Kathy Griffin defended using a private jet for her comedy tour, My Life on the PTSD-List. She joked that she’s losing money on the tour because of the jet but said, “I know it sounds spoiled, but it’s worth it.”
The 63-year-old comedian explained that using a private jet lets her sleep with her four rescue dogs and avoid Donald Trump supporters who might approach her at airports to tell her they think she’s horrible.
In 2017, Griffin was banned from flying for two months while the Justice Department investigated her for posting a video where she held a mask that looked like the severed, bloody head of then-President Trump. Although she apologized at first, she later said Trump’s behavior made the controversial image seem justified.
In August 2017, Kathy Griffin said she no longer felt sorry for the controversial photo, calling the outrage “BS” and saying it was blown out of proportion. She mentioned that, considering the actions of Trump and his administration, she felt the backlash seemed even more ridiculous.
Griffin revealed that the fallout from the photo cost her over $1 million in legal fees, led to her losing her job, and caused her life to spiral out of control. She struggled with addiction to prescription pills like OxyContin and benzodiazepines and even attempted suicide.
In 2021, Kathy Griffin faced more tough news when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have one of her lungs removed. Four months after the surgery, she announced that she was cancer-free.
Earlier this year, she had to have a second surgery on her vocal cords to help restore her voice. Despite these challenges and the drama with Trump, Griffin is now back on the road for her first stand-up tour since 2018.
