Kittens who are really close stick together and jump onto any empty lap they see once they’re inside, especially after being found in a box outside.

Two bonded kittens jumped on any empty lap they could find once indoors after being found in a box outside.

Two gray kittens were discovered in a box outside when they were just a few weeks old. Their mom wasn’t around, and they really needed help. Tails High, a group of volunteers who rescue animals, took them in. After being looked after for 2-3 weeks, they got healthier and had more energy. The kittens, called Mike and Ike at first because they were mistaken for boys, got out of their carrier when they arrived at a new home. They quickly started looking for people to sit on.

“When Mike and Ike are around, there’s never an empty lap for too long,” said Asa, their foster mom, to Love Meow. “They’ve been super friendly since they got here. They’re the nicest kittens and not afraid of anything.”

Asa’s dogs, who love kittens, heard the new arrivals and wagged their tails happily, ready to meet them.

The kittens immediately gravitated towards the resident dog

Normally, when new kittens meet dogs, they might hiss or keep their distance. But not Mike and Ike. “They went straight to my four furry kids, both cats and dogs, right away,” their foster mom said. “They even ran towards the vacuum, which I’ve never seen an animal do. It was funny watching these tiny 1.5-pound kittens running towards a big vacuum.”

One day at the vet, Asa found out that the kittens were actually girls, but they kept their names anyway.

When they weren’t sitting on someone’s lap, they were snuggled together on their favorite blanket or on top of the family dog, Kona. Ike liked kneading Mike like dough until they both fell asleep in a cozy pile.

“Mike has been the more ‘needy’ one; she had a lot of trouble gaining weight, and we had a few scary moments,” Asa explained. “For a week, Mike couldn’t keep food down and became severely underweight. I thought she wasn’t going to make it, and I cried, thinking about losing her.”

Later, Asa noticed something wasn’t right about how Mike was breathing and swallowing while eating. “I tried holding her head up straight to see if it made a difference. And it did! Now, every time she eats, I wrap her up and hold her upright until she’s done digesting.”

While Mike was getting better with her sister, Kona, the family dog, showed some motherly love. The kittens felt safe with her and snuggled up on top of her for comfort.

Since then, Mike has been eating really well and gaining so much weight that she’s caught up to Ike.

“They spend most of their day running around and playing together, climbing all over me, or sleeping on my lap while I work.”

When they were small, Kona would snuggle up with them on Asa’s lap in a cozy pile. Now that the kittens are bigger, they nap on their foster mom during the day and want to be held together side by side.

Working from home has turned into a full-on kitten snuggle fest.

“I wonder how I manage to do anything with these two around? I ask myself that every single day.”

“When they were tiny, these two looked exactly alike, but as they grow, they’re starting to look more different. It’s both happy and sad watching foster kittens grow up because it means they’re getting closer to being ready for adoption.”

Ike has officially reached 3 pounds, and her sister Mike is almost there too. They’re doing really well, growing quickly, and spending all their time on their foster mom’s lap, day and night.
