Lorraine Kelly, 64, has explained why she won’t be at tonight’s National Television Awards. She said she doesn’t feel confident enough to go. Lorraine, who usually gets invited to the event and has had her show nominated before, admitted that she finds the pressure of the red carpet overwhelming.
On her show, Lorraine told guest Holly Matthews, who was there to talk about her new book “Find Your Confidence,” that she won’t be going to the NTAs this year. Lorraine explained that she usually attends, but this time she doesn’t feel confident enough and finds the red carpet really intimidating.
Confidence coach Holly Matthews, 39, who is also an actress, talked about how people often feel like they are being judged and not good enough when they’re in the spotlight. She suggested that instead of worrying, people should focus on conversations and their surroundings. Lorraine agreed, saying Holly’s book gives practical and sensible advice.
Lorraine, who usually attends the NTAs, isn’t going this year. Even though she isn’t nominated, shows like “Loose Women” and “This Morning” are competing for Best Daytime. Lorraine has been asking her followers to vote for “The Masked Singer,” where she recently appeared as a guest judge.
Last year, Lorraine missed the NTAs because it was her wedding anniversary. She’s known for wearing stunning gowns to the awards, like a black off-the-shoulder dress in 2019, a sparkling white dress in 2015, and a red tartan gown in 2012.
Lorraine Kelly mentioned that she’s not going to the National Television Awards because she’s not feeling confident. On her show, she talked to Holly Matthews, who’s a confidence coach and actress. Holly shared some tips on how to build confidence:
Body Acceptance: Instead of trying to achieve perfect body confidence, start by accepting your body as it is. Appreciate what your body can do and focus on the positive aspects.
Ask for What You Want: Practice being specific about what you need or want. Holly gave an example about ordering tea—be specific about your preferences. This helps in getting what you actually want.
Embrace Your Uniqueness: Accept and celebrate your unique traits rather than seeing them as flaws. Holly shared that being told she talked too much growing up was actually a strength that helped her succeed.
Lorraine found these tips helpful and thinks they could apply to various aspects of life.
Lorraine Kelly discussed how to handle compliments and celebrate small successes with confidence coach Holly Matthews on her show.
Holly suggested that instead of brushing off compliments with self-criticism, people should just say “thank you,” even though it might feel awkward. She also recommended celebrating everyday achievements, like getting dressed or sending an important email, to build confidence.
Holly, who lost her husband to a rare brain tumor in 2017, focuses on helping others find their confidence through her project, The Happy Me Project. Her new book, Find Your Confidence: The No-Nonsense Guide to Self-Belief, will be released on September 16.
