Madonna recently talked about how serious her health problem was last summer, during the start of her “The Celebration Tour” in Los Angeles. She thanked her doctor, Dr. David Agus, and other medical staff who helped her recover. She mentioned feeling strange not being in control, referring to a bacterial infection that put her in the ICU in July. Madonna, who is 65 years old, has had previous injuries, including a titanium hip, but said this was scarier. She couldn’t remember anything for four days because she was in a coma. When she woke up, the first word she said was “No.” She described it as a near-death experience.
Last summer, the singer was found unconscious at a home and had to go to the ICU. She needed a tube to help her breathe overnight. Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, shared on Instagram that she got a bad bacterial infection, which kept her in the ICU for several days. Now she’s out of intensive care and getting better in a regular part of the hospital.
We don’t know exactly what bacterial infection Madonna had yet. But according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 23,000 Americans die each year from different serious bacterial infections.
