Mary Bonnet from Selling Sunset shares that she refused to give up, even when things were really tough. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, she talked about her memoir, Selling Sunshine: Surviving Teenage Motherhood, Thriving in Luxury Real Estate, and Finally Finding My Voice. She said she often cried and wondered why things had to be so hard, but she kept going because she wanted to inspire others. Her book will be released on Tuesday, September 24.
Bonnet talks about the many challenges she has faced in her life, such as having her son Austin when she was a teenager, dealing with a traumatic sexual assault, and struggling with fertility issues. She wants to show that there is hope and that her difficult experiences can help others.
Bonnet admitted she left out some things in her memoir that really affected her because she didn’t want to hurt or embarrass the people she loves, especially her son.
Bonnet says her son Austin, who is 27, will be fine and won’t be upset by what she wrote in her book.
In Selling Sunshine, she talks about getting pregnant at 15 and how people in her Indiana town treated her poorly because of it.
Bonnet reflects that everything happens for a reason. She explains that being a young mother and facing judgment everywhere was very painful, but it helped her handle criticism better now.
She also shares that one of the most traumatic experiences she faced was being drugged and raped by someone she calls “Joe” in her book after she moved to Los Angeles.
Bonnet says that she still feels the effects of the trauma she experienced and it might never completely go away. Even though her husband, Romain Bonnet, is very supportive and understanding, she still sometimes flinches when he touches her.
She believes sharing her story helps her cope, even though it was difficult to relive and talk about her experiences.
Mary and Romain from Selling Sunset want to have a baby, but it’s been a tough journey for them. Mary talked about her struggles with fertility on the show and in her book. In March 2023, she had a miscarriage and has since gone through several rounds of IVF.
Mary is now speaking out more about her experiences. She joined the board of a women’s health organization called AAGL, which raises money for research and support programs around the world. They help with issues like endometriosis that can affect fertility. Mary wants to use her experience to help others.
She hopes that after reading her book, fans and readers will learn to “keep moving forward” despite challenges.
No matter what you’re facing, you will get through it, just like you have with other tough times. Keep believing in yourself, even when it’s hard. Stay positive, pick yourself up, and find happiness. Remember to appreciate the good things because they will come.
