People who live nearby are rushing to help 34 cats that were thrown out onto the streets.

When Meagan Licari from Puppy Kitty NY City rescue got a message about a cat needing help on the street, she and her team quickly went to assist. But when they arrived, they found out things were more complicated than they first thought.

When the rescuers got there, they found 15 cats in different spots around the building—some on the street, some hiding in pots, even on the roof, and under cars. And there were more cats inside still needing help. It was a big job, but thankfully, lots of people from the city came to lend a hand.

“We simply asked for help on social media,” Licari told The Dodo. “People brought traps and carriers, and together we managed to rescue 34 cats from the apartment.”

Once the cats realized there were lots of people to help them, they felt better. Puppy Kitty NY City hadn’t planned on rescuing 34 cats that day, but they were happy to take care of them.

One cat, Hero, who was found hiding in a planter, is now a friendly lap cat. Another, Candy, enjoys making biscuits and getting attention. Heart, who was still inside the apartment, has already found a loving home with other cats. They all went from needing help to living happily, thanks to everyone who came to their rescue that day.

“Almost all of them are doing really well,” Licari said.

All the cats have been moved to homes where they are loved and cared for, and some have even found permanent families already. Despite their tough past, every single rescued cat is affectionate and friendly, and they’re all grateful to be safe and happy now.

If it weren’t for your help and donations, we couldn’t have saved these cats. They wouldn’t be safe and loved in foster homes, and a few even found their forever homes,” Licari wrote on TikTok.

We hope all the cats still in foster care will soon find their permanent homes, where they’ll never have to worry about being alone again.
