Queen Camilla has been a strong support for King Charles for years. However, the public hasn’t always liked her. When she first joined the royal family, many people, including Prince William and Prince Harry, had a hard time accepting her.
Today, Queen Camilla and Prince William seem to get along fine. This year, both have had to take on more royal duties because of King Charles and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, and they have been rightly praised for their efforts.
Even so, Queen Camilla is still queen and outranks Prince William and Kate Middleton. Sometimes, she feels they aren’t showing enough respect to the king, and a new book says she reminds them of this. Once, she even left them stranded to show who was in charge.
Queen Camilla’s popularity has dramatically improved. Years ago, many saw her as the villain who caused King Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage to fail. When she and Charles started dating and later married after Diana’s tragic death in 1997, many people had trouble accepting her into the royal family.
Queen Camilla’s popularity has greatly increased. Years ago, many people saw her as the villain who was responsible for King Charles and Princess Diana’s failed marriage. When she and Charles started dating and later married after Diana’s tragic death in Paris in 1997, many found it hard to accept her into the royal family.
Prince William & Prince Harry’s relationship with Queen Camilla
The press treated Camilla badly, but her bond with Charles helped them overcome it. On April 9, 2005, they got married in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall.
It wasn’t just the press and the public who had a hard time accepting Camilla. Queen Elizabeth also struggled with it, but the most affected were the two young princes, William and Harry.
After Princess Diana’s death, the brothers lost their loving mother who raised them like normal children. They got a stepmother in Camilla, but she and Harry didn’t get along.
Harry described his first meeting with Camilla as “awkward and tense.” In his book Spare, he wrote that William had always been suspicious of “the Other Woman.”
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Harry revealed that he and William even asked their father, King Charles, not to marry Camilla. But in the end, they changed their minds.
“We didn’t think it was necessary and thought it would cause more harm than good,” Harry told 60 Minutes. “We felt that being with her should be enough for him. We just wanted him to be happy, and we saw how happy he was with her.”
Camilla was “decidedly anxious” before first meeting with Prince William
Prince Harry’s first meeting with Camilla didn’t go well, but it was different when she met Prince William.
William was at his Eton school and told Charles that he’d be coming back to York House in London for the weekend.
In her book Queen Consort: The Life of Queen Camilla, royal author Penny Junor wrote that William’s sudden arrival surprised his father, and Camilla was nervous about the meeting. She even offered to leave before William arrived, but King Charles said that was “ridiculous.”
Instead, Charles told William that Camilla would be there when he arrived, and Camilla was “decidedly anxious.”
When William arrived, Charles told Camilla to “get on with it.” Camilla and William spent about 30 minutes getting to know each other, and afterward, Camilla said, “I need a gin and tonic.”
After meeting William for the first time, Camilla said, “I need a gin and tonic.” The meeting went well, and she described him as “friendly.”
“She never tried to be mummy”
Prince William and Prince Harry lived at Highgrove House with their mother during their childhood. After she passed away, Charles moved the family to York House. According to Penny Junor, this meant they had no memories of their mother there.
Soon, the royal PR team started working on getting William, Harry, and Camilla seen together in public, as she would become their stepmother. In Queen Consort: The Life of Queen Camilla, PR expert Mark Bolland told Junor that it was initially “something awkward.”
“It was difficult for them; it was natural. You want your mum, not someone else. Camilla had her own family. To be fair to her, she never tried to be their mummy, but she was the ‘other woman’ and was taking their dad’s time,” Bolland said.
Today, Prince William and Queen Camilla seem to have a great relationship, and the same goes for her and Kate Middleton.
Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton have been seen as great partners for many years. Before Kate’s wedding to William, Camilla took her to lunch and gave her some advice for the future.
“If I can give you one bit of advice,” a person dining next to them overheard Queen Camilla saying.
“They were all getting along really well and didn’t ask for a private table or try to be quiet,” the person told the Daily Mail.
At one point, Kate made a joke, saying, ‘What happens if William doesn’t show up?'”
Queen Camilla told Kate Middleton “the secret of hanging on to a busy prince”
The person at the lunch said that Kate and Camilla held hands several times, showing they got along very well.
Camilla gave Kate Middleton a personal wedding gift: a bracelet with the letters “Cs” on each side of the charm. It’s likely these stand for “Catherine” and “Camilla.”
According to Yahoo, Kate has worn this bracelet at the Wimbledon tennis tournament for several years.
Although Camilla and Kate seemed to get along, author Robert Lacey wrote in his book Battle of Brothers that Kate found it hard to take advice from her stepmother-in-law.
Camilla wanted to help Kate understand what she needed to do to make her marriage with William work and succeed as a royal. She advised Kate to organize her life around William’s busy schedule.
Even though Prince William and Kate Middleton will be king and queen in the future, right now, Queen Camilla is higher in the royal hierarchy. This means that William and Kate need to show her the respect she deserves.
Queen Camilla’s ‘subtle’ trick when William and Kate was ‘disrespectful’ to King Charles
Being a stepmother might make it hard for Camilla to be strict with William, but she has made it clear that she won’t accept certain behaviors.
In his new book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, author Robert Jobson says that Queen Camilla sometimes needs to remind William of his place in the royal hierarchy when he doesn’t show enough respect to his father. Once, she took a special step to remind William and Kate who was in charge.
Jobson describes an incident when William and Kate wanted to join King Charles and Queen Camilla’s security convoy from Windsor Castle. They were late, so Camilla decided to leave without them. When William and Catherine finally arrived, all they saw were the flashing lights of the convoy disappearing in the distance.
Even though Camilla and William’s relationship has had its ups and downs, they have faced challenges together and maintained a united front.
When King Charles and Kate Middleton earlier this year received their cancer diagnoses, Camilla and William found themselves in a very challenging situation.
Cancer diagnoses have brought Queen Camilla & Prince William “much closer,” expert claims
Camilla and William have become much closer by working together as part of the royal family. According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, this teamwork has strengthened their relationship.
Bond told OK!, according to the Mirror, that while King Charles and Princess Kate are recovering, Camilla and William have been taking on more duties.
When Queen Elizabeth died, William mentioned how she had been with him during both happy and sad times. Now, Camilla is sharing some of those moments with him, which helps build their bond.
Jennie Bond added that there are very few people a senior royal can fully trust, and Camilla is now one of those people for William. She also believes William offers Camilla support in return.
