Thinking about your own death can scare anyone, but for actress Shannen Doherty, knowing that it’s going to happen has actually made her feel comforted.
Back in 2015, the famous Hollywood star told everyone that she had breast cancer. Then, the next year, she shared the heartbreaking news that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.
Since then, the 52-year-old actress has been very open about her health journey. She regularly talks about it on her podcast called Let’s Be Clear.
Over the years, Shannen has had surgery to remove one breast, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. She talked about having a short break from the disease in 2017. But in 2020, she faced another problem when she said her cancer had come back. This time, it’s at Stage 4, and it’s spread to her brain and bones.
Even though things don’t look good, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star is hopeful about being able to spend more time with her family and friends. In January of this year, she talked about a treatment she had that managed to get through the protective barrier around her brain.
But in a podcast episode that came out on Monday, April 1, Shannen talked about a choice she’s made to make things easier for her family, especially her mom, Rosa, when she passes away.
“I’m someone who fights, and I trust in science. I believe there will be something that comes along to help me live longer,” Shannen said on the podcast. “Right now, my main concern is my mom. I know it’ll be really tough on her if I die before she does.”
Shannen recognized the heaviness of her choice, saying, “It feels like you’re letting go of something that was really precious to you. But deep down, you know it’s the right thing to do. It’ll bring you peace and calm.”

Shannen also talked about selling things she has stored away to get money for trips with her mom. She said, “It’s just stuff. I don’t really need it, and it doesn’t make me happy. But what does make me happy is taking my mom to the places she’s always wanted to visit.”
During this mix of sad and sweet times, it’s obvious that Shannen feels better when she can make special memories with her family, especially her mom.
It’s amazing to see her resilience and determination shine through as she navigates this journey. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to her.
