Shirley MacLaine is celebrating her 89th birthday! She’s saying she slept with two prime ministers.

Even at 89, Shirley MacLaine is as lively as ever.

Despite her age, this Academy Award-winning actress still enjoys herself and is often spotted sipping martinis in Hollywood restaurants.

In her long career spanning seven decades, she’s experienced a lot. Her life stories are quite extraordinary compared to others in the industry.

Shirley MacLaine has been in the movie business for a really long time, and she’s been in a bunch of amazing movies. Some of my favorites are The Apartment, The Trouble With Harry, Two Mules For Sister Sara, and Guarding Tess – but there are so many more!

People still talk about her role in the movie Steel Magnolias from 1989. But in real life, Shirley is nothing like the grumpy character she played, Ouiser Boudreaux.

“I’m not easily bothered by things,” she said in 2019.

Shirley MacLaine says her life right now is “perfect.” She loves being able to eat and sleep whenever she feels like it. She spends a lot of her time at her ranch in New Mexico, with her favorite rat terrier dogs.

She was born on April 24, 1934. Shirley began her amazing career on Broadway in New York. Later, she wowed people all over the world with her acting in Alfred Hitchcock’s funny movie called The Trouble with Harry in 1955.

“He was so funny,” Shirley said when she was 21, talking about Hitchcock.

“I’m glad I wasn’t tall, skinny, or mysterious, or I might have not liked him.”

She’s been in over 50 movies, making her a big name in Hollywood history. Even though she’s in her late 80s now, she still loves acting. She was in the TV show Only Murders in the Building not long ago.

“I’ve kept working because I wanted to pay for plane tickets to travel. I didn’t really party in Hollywood. I preferred traveling to new countries. So, when I think about my life, I might put traveling above show business,” she said.

Although she sometimes visits Hollywood, Shirley feels most at peace in nature. Her happiness secret isn’t staying busy, but enjoying the wild beauty around her New Mexico ranch, where she spends most of her time lately. Being close to nature gives her strength and energy, even though she also loves her home in Malibu.

Shirley even suggests others “give up and learn to blend in with nature,” pointing out the benefits of living in harmony with the natural world.

Shirley MacLaine partners

People have talked a lot about Shirley’s love life over the years.

She was married to producer and businessman Steve Parker for nearly 30 years. They had a daughter together in 1956. But Shirley has said openly that she had other relationships while she was married to him.

A while back, Sachi Parker, Shirley’s daughter, said something surprising in her book. She wrote that Shirley told her Steve wasn’t her real dad. She said her real dad was supposed to be an astronaut named Paul.

Shirley said the claim wasn’t true and she was hurt by it. She explained, “It’s really hard for me as a mom and someone who believes in telling the truth. I’m shocked and really sad that my daughter would say things about me that aren’t true. I’ve always spoken highly of her honestly in my own books. It hurts to see my daughter being dishonest like this when all I ever wanted was the best for her.”

Even though Shirley says it’s not true, Sachi still believes her real dad is an astronaut named Paul. Because of this, their relationship has gotten difficult, and they reportedly don’t talk anymore.

Shirley has always been open about her different ideas about relationships and love. In a 2011 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 89-year-old talked about her relationship with her ex-husband, Steve Parker. Then, in 2012, she shocked everyone again by telling the Daily Mirror that she had slept with not just one, but two prime ministers in her life.

In her book Out on a Limb, Shirley wrote about meeting a politician named “Gerry” at a hotel in Sweden. Some thought she was talking about Olof Palme, the Prime Minister of Sweden then, but he said it wasn’t true. Shirley also said she slept with Pierre Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, and Andrew Peacock, the Australian Foreign Minister.

When she was asked about Trudeau, she said:

“He was nice. He was really smart and in charge. I liked his kids a lot too. They were so cute and playful.”

Shirley’s claims about sleeping with prime ministers haven’t been proven true or false, so we can’t be sure if they’re real.

There have also been rumors that Shirley had a three-year relationship with Robert Mitchum and a short “crush” on Dean Martin, along with other romantic relationships.

Shirley MacLaine’s talent and charm are timeless. Even at 89, she’s still eager for new challenges. Her recent role in Only Murders in the Building showed how much she still has to offer. In a recent interview, she hinted that she’s not done with acting yet.

“I love making movies. I always come back to creativity. Playing Leonora Folger in Murders was so much fun. I enjoyed shooting those scenes a lot. It was great to see old friends like Steve [Martin] and Marty [Short], and I’ve known the creator John Hoffman for years. I just loved being with them,” she said to Advocate.
