The big-cheeked cat used to have to fight other animals outside to get food. But now, it’s the boss of the house.

A chubby cat with big cheeks had to live outside for a long time. He relied on scraps of food from people, but nobody took him in. He had to fight with raccoons to get food, and sometimes he didn’t eat for days.

Sandra noticed that the cat was getting rougher and rougher while she was taking care of him for a family. The tired male cat sat sadly while raccoons ate his food. He looked exhausted, like he had lost hope.

Sandra really wanted to help the cat. She brought him inside, gave him a nice, quiet room to stay in, and called him Clyde because she thought he deserved a better life.

Clyde had to compete with raccoons for food

Clyde wasn’t doing well. He had a lot of problems, like a big wound on his neck and a condition called entropion, where his eyelids turned inwards. This made his eyelashes and fur rub against his eyes all the time, which was very uncomfortable.

His room was a palace compared to the gritty streets outside. He was quiet but happy to be indoors at last.

With the help of St. Francis Society Animal Rescue, Clyde’s wound was cleaned and fixed, and his eyelids were fixed too. Clyde got to sleep in a really big bed for the first time ever, and he was extremely happy.

Sandra said, “He tried out the soft, fluffy blanket, then my pillow, but he decided the best place to be was cuddled up next to me. I woke up a few times during the night, and every time, I found him snuggled up comfortably.”

Over the next two weeks, Clyde rested a lot and got better quickly. “He found scratchers and catnip, and he really enjoys them. His fur looks cleaner, shinier, and softer. He’s a chatty cat and loves to cuddle at night.”

With his new energy and hunger, he started exploring more and getting interested in everything in the house.

He finds the sink and running water fascinating. When his foster mom brushes her teeth, he wants to “save” her from the shower. He sticks close to her, follows her everywhere, and welcomes her when she comes home.

Having FIV+ doesn’t bother him, and he loves exploring every part of the house like a detective.

He likes other cats, but he really wants to be the only pet in a home. Clyde has been inside for about nine months now, and he’s become a cheerful and confident cat. He’s looking for a permanent home where he can be the king and give lots of cuddles and purrs.

“Less than a year ago, this chubby-cheeked, cute cat used to go days without food. But now, Sweet Clyde thinks he’s the boss of the house,” said Colleen, who volunteers at St. Francis Society Animal Rescue.

“He watches everything you do. If you forget groceries on the counter, Clyde will take care of it. When you return to the kitchen, they won’t be there anymore.”

Apart from being a bit mischievous, Clyde also has a sweet and loving side.

He trails his people around the house, curls up in bed beside them at night, and showers them with purrs and snuggles in the morning.

“This handsome former Tom has traded in his big cheeks for a simpler life of lying on counters and sleeping all day.”

Happy and loved
