A community brought a stray cat inside from harsh weather and never stopped looking for his best friend.

Last month, someone saw two long-haired cats—one orange and white, and the other gray—outside in the snow, struggling in the bad weather. The person posted on social media asking for help to save the tired cats from the freezing cold. The two cats stuck together, searching for food and a warm place to stay. They had cuts and scars on their faces.

People from the rescue community quickly got involved. They set up special traps in the area to try to catch both cats and bring them to safety.

Despite their hard work, they managed to catch the orange and white cat, but the gray cat escaped the trap and couldn’t be found even after hours of searching. They took the orange and white cat to Exploits Valley SPCA while they kept trying to find his gray friend.

“He had been living outside for two years. When he arrived, he was very scared, had injuries, and his fur was all tangled,” said the SPCA.

The cat was scared and stayed in a corner, keeping his head down. Because of his big size and tough past, the shelter decided to give him a powerful name. With everyone’s help, they named him Victor.

After spending tough years outside, Victor was cautious and didn’t trust easily. But with cozy surroundings, tasty food, and kind words, he started to feel more comfortable around people.

When Victor tried his first treat, he got interested and raised his head for more. After eating it all up, he cleaned his mouth with his tongue, and the fear in his eyes disappeared.

“Even though he was really scared when he got here, he’s starting to feel more comfortable thanks to all the love and gentle care,” they said.

While Victor was getting better and getting used to being at the shelter, his best friend was still missing, so they kept looking for him.

Within a week, Victor went from being rough-looking, scared, dirty, and having tangled fur to being clean, happy, and feeling sure of himself. He got all his medical check-ups done, was neutered, and even got a makeover at the vet’s office.

The vets shaved off the tangled fur on Victor’s belly and cleaned and treated his wounds and cuts.

“He seems like a completely different cat now. He enjoys attention and will stand on his back legs to nuzzle you. He loves sleeping, eating, and being pampered,” they said.

After 28 days of not giving up, their hard work paid off. “We rescued Victor four weeks ago, and he’s changed so much. The only thing missing was his dear best friend.”

“Today, that changed.”

Marilyn, who rescues animals, and many caring people in the neighborhood worked together to save Victor’s friend, a lovely gray cat they named Hugo.

Hugo is now resting in a cozy bed with a full tummy after getting checked by the vet and treated. He’s still a bit dirty and his fur is tangled, but soon he’ll get a nice grooming just like Victor did. “He’s a bit nervous, but he’s already friendly and easy to handle. Things are going to get better for him.”

Tonight, both Victor and Hugo can sleep peacefully with their tummies full. Soon, they’ll be playing together, but this time, they’ll be cozy and warm.

“This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for—seeing the change from before to after.”
