A coyote in a Texas park might have bitten three kids. The city leaders in Arlington decided to put the coyote to sleep in a humane way.
Arlington Animal Services caught the coyote on Thursday morning after the incidents at Parkway Central Park. They will check if the coyote has rabies at the Texas Health and Human Services in Austin.
The city mentioned that there was already a problem with aggressive coyotes in the park. Animal control officers and police caught the coyote after it came at them on a road near the park.
The park will be closed until they figure out what to do next with the coyote. They will work with the U.S. Agriculture Departmentās Animal & Plant Health Inspection Wildlife Services to make a plan.
The city said that three kids were bitten in the park between Saturday and Tuesday. It happened either on the playground or in the parking lot. Luckily, all of them went to the hospital and got treated. They will also get medicine to protect against rabies.
After the first kid got bitten on Saturday, the city’s animal services started looking for the animal and set a trap. When they found out about the second kid on Tuesday, they closed the park and set more traps and patrols. Later, they found out about the third kid who got bitten on Monday.
