Cancer is a tough thing that many people have to deal with in life. Even if we don’t get it ourselves, someone we care about might. At Newsner, we’ve talked about lots of stories related to cancer—some are sad, some give hope, and some are really uplifting. But the story of 2-year-old Beckett is one that touched us the most.
You might remember the little boy in the sad picture above. Beckett’s mom, Kaitlin Burge, shared a photo on social media in 2019. It showed her son, Beckett, who was two years old at the time, getting comforted by his older sister while he was having chemotherapy treatment. Beckett was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 25, 2018, and he started treatment right away.
At that time, his sister Aubrey, who was four years old, had to see her little brother struggling. He found it hard to walk or even play.
According to Bright Side, Kaitlin explained that Beckett stayed in the hospital for 35 days to get treatment for cancer. During this time, Aubrey couldn’t visit him. She knew he was very ill and that doctors were taking care of him, but it was all hard for her to understand.
Luckily, Beckett’s treatment was successful, and he’s now free from cancer. “I saw my only son go through a lot and still manage to smile. I saw my sweet Aubrey go through a tough time in her life and become very strong,” Kaitlin said. “She saw her best friend and brother in a situation no sibling should ever have to see.”

After two years of fighting hard, Beckett has overcome his cancer and is now going to school.
Kaitlin said, “He’s doing really well, he’s finished his treatment, and he’s back in school, now in first grade.” Beckett, who is now six years old, and his amazing older sister have a strong connection because of the tough fight they went through together. We’re sure she’s very happy that he’s healthy again!
Tough times don’t last
Stories like Beckett’s can inspire us and help us see our own problems in a different light. Even though it’s hard, it’s important to remember that tough times don’t last forever. There’s always an end, even if it’s hard to see, and usually, better things are waiting ahead. We’re really happy that Beckett made it through his fight with cancer and is healthy now. Cancer is a terrible illness, and it would be great if we could get rid of it completely.
