Earlier this month, the Exploits Valley SPCA in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, welcomed two mother cats and their eight kittens who were in urgent need of assistance. This big group of cats had been rescued by the Boyd’s Cove TNR Project before they were brought to the shelter.

The cat moms were quite small, each weighing about four pounds. They were only about a year old themselves but were doing their best to take care of their very needy kittens. “These two cats, who we think are sisters, have eight kittens altogether, and they’re taking care of them together,” said Sarah from Exploits Valley SPCA, talking to Love Meow.

“They are truly inseparable and even walk with their tails linked.”

Thanks to lots of volunteers, the family of 10 moved into a cozy, big room at the shelter. There, they could run around, climb cat trees, play with toys, and always have plenty of food.

The sister cats, Xeno and Ripley, had their kittens at the same time and have been raising them together. They’re co-parenting their little ones, who always keep them busy.

As the kittens get older and start doing things on their own, the two moms are spending more time at the glass door, hoping someone will give them attention as they walk by. They often go together to the door, with their tails twisted around each other.

“Their favorite spot at the shelter is by the glass door, where they can see what’s happening in the hallway! They’re really friendly cats who enjoy being noticed,” Sarah told Love Meow.

Whenever there is a visitor, the sisters will come running to greet them while trying to win them over. They are excited to get some pets and snuggles, and enjoy sharing attention from their human friend.

“These cats may be small, but they’ve got big personalities! The kittens and moms are all small, but they’re chatty, friendly, and playful.”

“These two sweet girls want to find a forever home together, so they can always stay together. They’ll be happy for their kittens to find homes, but they really want to be adopted as a pair.”

Some of the kittens have caught the interest of potential adopters, but Xeno and Ripley are still waiting for the perfect family to come along. “Currently, there aren’t any adoption applications for Xeno and Ripley.”

“They’ve been amazing moms to all eight babies, even though they’re tiny themselves,” Sarah told Love Meow.

“The kittens are getting really playful and full of energy. One of them has already found a new home.”

Xeno and Ripley are ready to stop being moms and start getting all the attention from a loving family. They still greet anyone who comes to see them at the glass door and hope that someday soon their dream of finding a forever home will come true.
