Sidney Poitier was born on Cat Island in the Bahamas, and he was the youngest of seven kids. He learned the importance of hard work and staying determined while growing up on a farm. He was born three months early, which made him a U.S. citizen, and his family would often go to Miami to sell what they grew.
When Sidney was 15, he left Cat Island and went to Nassau, and later on, he moved to the United States.
