Get ready for a touching story that shows how cats can show love and appreciation, not just independence. Meet Leo, a charming cat with one ear whose life hasn’t been easy. Leo’s troubles began when his owner died, leaving him and two other cats to his son. Sadly, the son didn’t want to take care of them and had two of the cats put to sleep right away.

He left Leo outside with hardly any food or water, a far cry from Leo’s previous life. Leo was already an older cat, maybe around 10 to 12 years old, and wasn’t used to being outdoors in such tough conditions.
Luckily, a caring woman named Louise stepped in to help Leo as soon as she heard about his situation. She didn’t give up until she convinced the man to let her take care of Leo.

Leo was in really bad shape and needed help right away. When Louise saw him, she knew she had to take him to the vet as soon as possible. But there were more problems because no shelter could take him in.
Thankfully, Baby Kitten Rescue from Los Angeles, CA, stepped up to help with Leo’s medical bills, while Louise agreed to take care of him temporarily. Together, they started a tough journey to get Leo healthy and happy again.

Caroline Grace, founder of Baby Kitten Rescue, described Leo’s arrival at their rescue:
Leo was really skinny, thirsty, and weak because of fleas. His teeth were in bad shape, and one was broken. His fur was so tangled that they had to shave it off. Part of his right ear was missing from an old injury, and he was limping because of another old injury on his right leg that hadn’t been treated.
But even with all those problems, Leo’s spirit was strong. He was really friendly and loving, almost like he knew that help was finally here for him.

All Leo wanted was to be loved and have someone to be with him. And soon, he was going to get even more than that. Grace continued:
“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure this sweet boy has a happy, pain-free life filled with love for the rest of his days.”
After just a few days of getting used to being indoors again, Leo began to open up. He had his favorite hiding spot behind the chair, but he always made sure to say hello to the person who rescued him.

Whenever Louise walked into the room, Leo would go right up to her. Louise said:
“He started walking between my legs and purring. He wanted lots of love and followed me everywhere like a puppy.”
Leo got special medicines and treatments to make him healthier. After getting his teeth fixed, Leo was like a brand-new cat. He started eating more, even though he was missing a few teeth. He ate a lot and had more energy to play.

Leo really loved food, but there was someone he loved even more – Louise.
Every morning, Leo would wake Louise up with gentle meows, showing his appreciation with head butts and rubbing against her face. It was like he was saying thank you for saving his life and giving him another chance. After saying hello to Louise, he would head to his food bowl, waiting patiently for breakfast.

Leo really liked food, but he loved Louise even more. Every morning, he’d wake her up with gentle meows, showing how thankful he was with head butts and rubbing against her face. It was like he was saying thank you for rescuing him and giving him another shot at life. After saying hi to Louise, he’d go to his food bowl and wait politely for breakfast.
Thanks to the medical care, love, and affection he received, Leo began to thrive. His hind legs healed well, enabling him to walk and run like any other cat. Grace shared:
Leo has some pain from arthritis, so he went to see a special vet who does physical therapy. The vet gave us some exercises to do with him every day. Next week, Leo will get acupuncture to help with the pain.
Despite his condition, she added:

As time went by, it became clear that Leo liked being alone. He didn’t want to share his space with other pets. He liked a calm place and wanted a person’s full attention.

Thankfully, a foster volunteer, Cindy from Los Angeles, welcomed Leo into her home, which he now considers his kingdom. Grace said:
“We thought Leo might take some time to get used to his new home, but he started exploring right away. He even gave Cindy head bumps and purred a lot. He’s already enjoying it there.”
Leo was being taken care of well, and he was getting better, but finding a permanent home wasn’t simple. He still needed many treatments to become completely healthy.
But even with all the treatments, Leo was doing great in his new home. You could see the happiness on his face. He had the whole house and Cindy’s love all to himself.

Every morning, he would greet Cindy with soft meows and then proceed to his food bowl, ready for breakfast. What a polite kitty, right?
Cindy instantly fell in love with Leo and his charming personality. Grace said:
“He loves snuggling and watching TV with his foster mom, and he even starts purring when he sees her. Leo’s strength and sweet nature are truly inspiring. Despite all he’s been through, Leo is just a big cuddly bundle of love. I’m thrilled that we can give this sweet boy another chance to have a safe, loving, and happy life.”
Today, Leo is doing really well. He loves his life, his home, and, most importantly, his foster mom. He’s been getting Solensia injections for 3 months now. It’s a medication for arthritis that the vet gives him once a month to help with the pain and swelling.

Thanks to that, Leo can move more easily and pain-free. Grace shared:
“Leo’s foster mom, Cindy, thinks he’s the nicest cat. Recently, Cindy had a scary health problem, and Leo stayed with her the whole time, giving her lots of cuddles and love.”
Leo’s journey has been one of resilience and change. As he keeps getting better, Leo’s cheerful personality shines even brighter.
It won’t be long before this amazing cat finds his forever home. There’s no question that he deserves the absolute best that life has to offer.
