Woman with lots of tattoos says it’s unfair that she can’t find a job.

A woman named Ash Putnam, who is 23 and uses the name @ashxobrien on TikTok, said she was discriminated against by TJ Maxx because of her tattoos and piercings. She applied for a part-time job there but got rejected because of her appearance. She shared her experience on TikTok, which sparked a debate about discrimination in hiring.

Putnam’s first complaint was about getting a rejection email instead of a phone call, which felt impersonal to her. Even though big companies often do this, she thought it was insensitive considering she put effort into applying for the job.

When she went to her local TJ Maxx to ask about the rejection in person, an employee told her she didn’t have enough experience for the job. But she thought her tattoos had a big part in it, even though the employee said otherwise.

Even though Putnam was disappointed, she said she didn’t really need the job but wanted extra money to pay off debt faster. She thought it was unfair that her tattoos seemed to be the reason she didn’t get hired.

Putnam has tattoos that show things related to Satanism, like a goat representing Baphomet and a Leviathan Cross. We don’t know if the hiring managers saw her tattoos when she applied, but many TikTok users commented on her post, saying her tattoos probably affected the decision.

Some people said that having visible tattoos might look unprofessional, especially if you work with customers like at TJ Maxx. Others said it’s hard for young people with no work experience to get a job if companies care more about experience.

This situation made people think about how society sees tattoos and how companies hire people. Putnam wondered why tattoos should stop someone from getting a job, especially when many tattooed people are really good workers.

We can’t say for sure if Putnam’s tattoos caused her rejection, but this situation shows that people still argue about whether it’s fair to judge someone by their looks at work. As we talk about this more, it’s important to think about how companies can be fair to everyone applying for jobs, no matter how they look.
